Mining a Shared Heritage: Mexico’s ‘Little Cornwall’

£10.00

During the 1824, the first party of Cornish mineworkers arrived in Real del Monte, Mexico, to rehabilitate flooded colonial silver mines that had been abandoned during the War of Emancipation. Spearheaded by British capital, the Cornish introduced their mining expertise and steam engine technology, heralding the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. But they also brought their culture, fostering links that remain relevant two centuries later. In July 2008, a members of the Cornish-Mexican Cultural Association travelled to Mexico’s ‘Little Cornwall’ to be present when Redruth was twined with Real del Monte and Camborne entered into a Friendship Agreement with Pachuca. This book provides a permanent record of that visit.
